September 2017 – Number 172

Hi everyone!

Somehow we’ve hit the middle of August and I’m not entirely sure how that happened. And sooooo many shows coming up! I need to see them aaaaaaaall!

Members evening – Friday 6 October

Mark your diaries now, dear members! Our next members evening will be on Friday 6 October at the Hok at 19h00. It will be a 1920s themed evening with a murder mystery written by the talented Wayne Ronné. Dressing up is welcome, nay encouraged!

More details will be sent out about characters and how the evening will work a little closer to the time. So watch this space!

There will also be a sneak preview of CDS’s next show, Agatha Christie’s The Unexpected Guest, directed by Lynn Moss. For more on that, read on!

Hok cleanup weekend – Take Two!

You may recall we had a Hok cleanup weekend back in December last year. Unfortunately it was rather poorly attended though we did make a huge difference rearranging the furniture. Due to lack of bodies, we didn’t get around to sorting out the Mayor’s Office or the props drawers, which seriously need some TLC. So we’re planning a second cleanup weekend for 7–8 October. Hopefully that’s enough notice that you can clear some space in your diaries to pop in and lend a hand for an hour or two.

We will be there all day Saturday and, if needed, Sunday morning too, but we’ll need to clear out (ha ha, see what I did there?) by noon to make way for Unexpected Guest rehearsals.

We hope to see you all there so we can make our little home as pretty as can be!

Speaking of Unexpected Guest rehearsals, they are going well – on track to be a cracking Agatha. Check out some photos from behind the scenes (photo credit Lynda Jennings):

Looking good there, guys. Be sure to come to our members evening on 6 October for an exclusive sneak preview of this intriguing show.

The Unexpected Guest opens at the Masque Theatre on Friday 27 October and runs until Saturday 4 November.

Tickets are R100 for evening performances and R90 for matinees. CDS members can purchase discount prepaid tickets for R70 for evening performances and R60 for matinees. Please contact a committee member if you would like to purchase prepaid tickets.

Masque year-end fundraiser show – FAME!

FAME is still looking for cast members!

Some ensemble roles are still open for young men who can play age 15 to 22ish, and dance and sing. Shows are 11–23 December at the Masque Theatre and rehearsals start late September/early October.

Please email manager@masquetheatre.co.za with FAME in the subject line for more information.

Complete Works

For the third time this year, Daniel Enticott, Faeron Wheeler and I are taking to the stage with our Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged). If you haven’t yet seen the show, I do encourage you to come and watch – I am reliably informed that it is hilarious. But of course it is – I’m in it!

We’re on at the Galloway Theatre at the Waterfront Theatre School for three shows only: 21–23 September.

Hope to see you there!

Director’s tickets

We need new directors for our CDS productions. If you are interested in directing, we’d love to have you! All you need to do is stage a short play or play extract at a members evening to get your director’s ticket. For more information or to propose a play, contact our members evening convenor Matt Roy (contact details at the end of this newsletter).

Digital archive

I am still working my way through the Hok’s collection of old programmes, photo albums, posters and DVDs and am constantly updating the list of CDS (and previously SoE) productions. Please have a nose through when you have a moment and let me know what you think: http://claremontdramatic.weebly.com.

See you at the theatre!
