November 2014 – Number 139

Hi all,

I cannot believe it is nearly Christmas time and we are busy wrapping up the year. What an incredible year it has been. We have so much to be proud of with another three successful productions under the belt. We are already looking forward to the New Year, but before we do that let us all have a party!

Next Members Evening

On 30 November we are having our final Members Evening of 2014.

This year we will be having a wonderful picnic/bring-and-braai.

Hosted by Su Cunningham at her Kenilworth School

139 1st Avenue, Kenilworth

6pm

We will provide salads and rolls and some light entertainment, you bring meat and booze (maybe a blanket or camping chairs).

We look forward to seeing you all there for real special close to a very productive year.

Please give Pam Burger a ring on 021 657 5700 (w) or 082 488 0442; or email her on pamb@masterparts.com to let her know if you will be joining us for another great evening.

Quartet

Once again we would like to thank everyone involved with this exceptional production. It was not only exceptional but successful artistically as well as financially. We are so proud of everyone. Hopefully we can celebrate this success at our upcoming members evening.

Crimes of the Heart

Our first production for 2015 has been cast by the director, the lovely Jenny Brandt:

“I have been very fortunate in finding a wonderful cast for my first production!   Included in my cast are a couple of well-known and well-loved faces, two very pretty new faces, a Scotsman with a surprisingly convincing southern accent and our very own Southerner from Mississippi!”

They are:

Lenny McGrath:                         Jana Botha

Chick Boyle:                                   Liz Roodt

Meg McGrath:                              Michaela O’Toole

Babe McGrath:                            Ashleigh van der Hoven

Barnette Lloyd:                           Trad Nogueira-Godsey

Doc Porter:                                     Matt Roy

Masque 200 Clubs

If you haven’t yet joined one of the Masque’s 200 Clubs (in which you donate a monthly amount to the Masque for general theatre upkeep so we can keep our little theatre running), please do consider it. It’s not a huge amount of money, but it could make a huge difference to the future of the Masque. All details can be found on the Masque website: www.masquetheatre.co.za.

From the chair….

Dear Members and friends,

Half way through October and we were already seeing Xmas trees etc. in the shops! We have had very good feedback on the September productions. The Shakespeare festival went well with good support from local schools. Pity there was not more members of the general public there.

The tribute to Cliff Richard and the shadows present by “The Young Ones” on the 5th and 6th September was sold out and the DQ Productions “Agnes of God” received very good reviews. The Amanda Peaceful Dance Company did a sterling job with their show.  The Aba tribute show sold out! Interesting to note whilst the Abba Show was on stage performing, Morne de Wet was busy painting  Gail’s set behind the black curtain!

Gail Hattingh’s “Fantasia” opened on Friday the 17th with a bang and as promised, has provided excellent entertainment. If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t miss the last shows TONIGHT at 7:30pm or TOMORROW Saturday,1st Nov at 2pm & 7:30pm!

Bookings are open for Johan Liebenberg’s “Tribute to Neil Diamond” on the 6th and 7th November. Johan has an excellent reputation and we are looking forward to this one.

“Fawlty Towers” booking will open shortly and the show dates are 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 December. The 2015 Production schedule is almost completed and we have auditions for the first 2 productions in November.

Darryl Spijkers will be doing “Steel Magnolias” in February. Auditions will be held on 9th November.

On the 23rd November we have auditions for “Murder on the Nile” to be directed by Philippe Pringiers. This production is scheduled for March.

We have other shows coming up, more news of those later. Please pencil in 17th January for the ANNUAL AWARDS EVENING, and the 8th February for the AGM.

Regards

Lindsay S,
Chairman

FOH – Front of House

That call will always be there! It’s such an important part for the successful run of our shows and we need to make sure we portray a good image. A friendly smile and welcome are what makes our patrons feel welcome. By the way, if you as a member have a Playhouse t-shirt that is a good opportunity to wear it.

To add your name to the list of volunteers click here. (If you have never done it before please contact Noel first (076 577 9338) and get her guidance on how it all works.)
