Dear Friends and Members,
I hope you’re all enjoying the warm weather and festive atmosphere that’s finally arrived. As the year winds down, the Masque Theatre is the place to be this December, with the upcoming craft market on the 8th of December, and the volunteer programme launch on the 15th of December!

ADLIB DECEMBER 2013
the Official Newsletter of Pinelands Players, established 1948 and incorporating The Cape Town Repertory Theatre
Society
P.O. Box 131 Howard Place 7450
Scribe: June cjwells@mweb.co.za

Hi Everyone
now that I’ve got my landlegs back, time to catch up with all the exciting things that have happened and those still to come. Thanks Tanya, for taking over the AdLib in my absence.

THE ONE-ACT PLAYS
Unfortunately those of us who missed Graham’s plays and the inauguration of our wonderful little theatre, have been seriously disadvantaged!
Congratulations to Graham and his cast. The clubhouse is looking amazing, I am soooooo impressed! Well done Committee, oh very well done!
FLASHMOB THEATRE – SUCCESS!
After sending out brochures in Pinelands and Mowbray, many more people are now aware that they have a vibrant Community Theatre Group on their doorstep. We asked those interested to join us on the 30th November and we had super cross section of people – from 15 to 80! Getting Lieske Bester and Debbie Gildenhuys to run the theatrical ‘happening’ was the key. They were fantastic. We watched a slightly unsure bunch of people become tight-knit groups of players who performed improvised plays with confidence and imagination. It was all so creative and enormous fun. Watching them find a character and later choose bits and pieces of costumes and props that best suited the character was fascinating.

Who would have thought that dress from ‘Kiss Me, Kate’ together with a scarf and shawl would be the perfect outfit for a fortune-telling gypsy? Or that a dancer’s outfit from ‘Forum’ with slight adjustment could transform someone into a Bollywood Delhi belly dancer?

It was all very creative and dramatic and made one realise what theatre is all about. Exciting, imaginative, collaborative fun!
Thanks Debbie and Lieske and thanks to all of the participants – what a wonderful day!

IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY – MILNERTON PLAYERS at the playhouse until 7TH DEC. Don’t miss this show, saw it last week and it was great fun, super performances from Nigel Sweet, Willy Sass, Sheila McCormick and others.
Tailpiece
I had a great time on my trip and it was fun to join David Millar for the trip from Venice to Sorrento to Genoa and then the cruise home. Pompeii and Capri lived up to all my expectations. David had left in early September and on his travels spent some time with Anthea and Danny Spurrier. Danny is undergoing chemo – we will all have you in our thoughts and prayers, Danny and know your indomitable spirit will overcome once again.
Louis de Kock suffered a stroke just over a week ago, a hell of a shock but fortunately he is recovering and almost back to his old self. Look after yourself, old pal, we all wish you a speedy recovery with positive vibes coming your way.
Nothing left but to say I hope we’ll see you on the 13th. If not, have a wonderful festive season, drive carefully and eke out every morsel of enjoyment you can from every day of the holidays.

With love, June.
