“CONSTANTIABERG CUE”
NEWS OF CONSTANTIABERG THEATRE PLAYERS
SEPTEMBER 2009
_______________________________________
Greetings all.
Well……………. I turned off all my heaters and brought the one home from work and what do you know…….winter is back! It was an act of pure foolishness on my part, to tempt the laws of fate in this reckless manner, and I apologise to one and all for the resulting chaos!!!
NEW MEMBERS
We warmly welcome the following new members and look forward to seeing them at future functions; Peter & Mary Moxley
LAST MEMBERS EVENING
On 29th July a stalwart few braved the elements for Wesley’s talk on the Grahamstown Festival. Well – I can only say that those who were unable to attend missed a real treat! What a most fabulous evening. Wesley spoke so enthusiastically about being a performer as well as being a visitor at the festival that by the end of the evening we were all gagging to go there next year! Wesley also treated us to another chance to experience his opening piece from the production of Hello & Goodbye by Athol Fugard. Thank you, Wesley for entertaining and inspiring us. And I must say the Gluhwein wasn’t half bad either. The pot was drunk dry and had several sets of mournful eyes staring longingly into said empty vessel. This was complimented by the lovely cheese and bikkies, mmmmmmmm!
NEXT MEMBERS EVENING – URGENT URGENT URGENT

This will be on Wednesday 23rd September at 8.00p.m. The tickets are R100 each and paid up members of the society will be subsidised to the tune of R50 so you will get to see an excellent production for R50.00. If you request a ticket, I ask that you please make sure that you do attend as I will be giving them my credit card details and I will hunt you down if you don’t pitch! You can email me or SMS/phone on 0833499697. It will be lovely to share an evening of theatre together so come and join in the fun! As the show starts at 8.00p.m they suggest you place your order no later than 7.00p.m PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP TO RESERVE YOUR PLACE – DO IT NOW!
OUR NEXT PRODUCTION
Well, Wesley’s production, which will be opening on 30th October “Abigail’s Party” by Mike Leigh, has begun rehearsals and according to Wesley they are going very well and he says he has a very talented cast. For new folk getting the newsletter it is described as a dark comedy. This very funny social satire is set in London in the 1970’s. The cast includes Wendy Goddard, Jane De Sousa, James Skilton and Jo Darby. Due to the extreme shortage of men in Cape Town Wesley is still trying to find his “Tony” If you know of anyone that would like to be a part of this wonderful cast please contact Wesley urgently (details below) Wesley is also looking for a lot of props that are very 70s kitsch. I will email a list of what we are looking for under separate cover once it is to hand. Talk about skeletons in the cupboard – one of the things he needed was a 45rpm (7 single) of Donna Summer’s “Love to Love you Baby” – can you believe I had it – how scary is that?
OCTOBER MEMBERS EVENING – ADVANCE NOTICE
This will be the eagerly awaited opening night of Abigail’s Party on 30th October. Snacks will be served and there will be a cash bar available – or you can bring your own refreshments. Please diarise now.

FRINGE PEOPLE
False Bay Hospital would like to follow the successful example set by Groote Schuur Hospital whereby HIV people can be employed to do beadwork which will be sold on the overseas market. This positive beadwork project, needs funds to buy equipment to get it up and running, which can be done by buying a ticket to see a delightful South African play, set in the new South Africa, called “Fringe People”. The play is staged by a talented cast from the “Off Road Players” and directed by Sue Bolton. The Author is Ralph Kelly who also wrote “Murder in the Common Room”, which was staged at the Masque Theatre last year to full houses. By seeing this play you will not only be helping to alleviate unemployment , but you are guaranteed a delightful romp with South African characters you will all identify with as well as having a good few belly laughs as well! Hope to see you there!
