August 2008
Hi there,
It s full steam ahead with the Wizard of Oz now.
We have had wonderfully successful auditions for our Munchkins and have managed to find enough children to fill both casts, that’s over 30 children!
It was a difficult task casting Dorothy as we had many new, young and talented, hopefuls auditioning.
We finally decided to have 2 Dorothy’s ………
Christine Thonissen and Ami – Rose Barber will share the role. Dorothy is on stage from beginning to end, so I think that they are both relieved that they will only be on stage for every second performance.
The other principles are as follows:
Scarecrow: Greg Tinney
Tinman : Bruce Clayton
Lion: De Wet Mitton
Glinda, good witch: Laura Bosman
The wicked witch: Roche Haupt
The Jitterbug: Roxanne Hayward
Toto: Joey and Max (also a shared role)
We have full chorus of girls and dancers but once again we are struggling to find men.
If you are a man and are keen to get involved please give Clifford or me a call!!!!
This show is going to be a family affair Laura Bosman’s daughter Bryoni is part of the munchkin crew and her husband Rory will be part of our back stage crew. Bruce Clayton’s daughter Alexandra will also be joining in as a munchkin. We have 2 Middlebrook brothers, Alex and Douglas. We also have 2 Sholto -Douglas sisters, Alice and Elsie
As usual we are keen to sell performances of our year end show to organisations. With this show running through December this is an ideal opportunity for companies or organisations to use this as a year end/Christmas function. It’s also an ideal way to raise funds for charity. The dates are from 5th to the 20th December.
If you are interested in finding out more about this please contact Tina.

“Excerpt from cat’s diary”
Day 983 of my captivity.
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.
They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.
The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.
Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a “good little hunter” I am. Bastards.
There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of “allergies.” I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage.
Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow — but at the top of the stairs.
I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released – and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.
The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now………
